Brownian Motion Under a Microscope Materials: Microscope; prepared pollen/microspheres in water What you do: Observe tiny particles at high magnification. What students see: Particles jitter randomly even when liquid seems still. Question: What is hitting the particles if we can't see it? 3. Paper Arch Supports Weight Materials: Index cards; two blocks; coins or small weights What you do: Bridge a gap with flat paper, then with folded/arched paper. What students see: The shaped paper holds much more weight. Question: How did the same paper become stronger?
