Build a Speaker

Build a Speaker https://www.sciencebuddies.org/stem-activities/make-a-paper-speaker Days: 2 Mode: Pairs or individual Take-home: Working paper speaker; reusable magnets/electronics returned

Teaching & key ideas

Key concepts: Electromagnetism, vibration, diaphragm, coil, sound. Hook: Play sound through a working paper speaker and gently touch diaphragm to feel vibration. Test / evidence: Speaker produces audible tone/music; compare diaphragm/coil changes if time. Variables to change: Diaphragm size/stiffness; coil turns; coil-magnet gap.

Lesson flow

Lesson plan: Day 1: build Day 2: troubleshoot/test variables Video: How to Build a Paper Speaker https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liSEwqdq7aA Safety / cleanup: Low-voltage audio only; teacher checks circuits to avoid shorts/hot wire.
