Materials: Clear cup; carbonated water; raisins
What you do: Drop raisins into fresh carbonated water.
What students see: Raisins repeatedly rise and sink.

2. Dry-Erase Drawing Floats
Materials: Smooth plate/spoon; dry-erase marker; water
What you do: Draw, let dry, then slowly add water.
What students see: The drawing lifts off and floats.
Question: How can a drawing peel off in one piece?
3. Mystery Orange: Peel On vs Off
Materials: 2 oranges; water tub
What you do: Float whole orange, then peeled orange.
What students see: Whole orange floats while peeled one sinks.
Question: Did removing something make it heavier or denser?
