Weave real cotton loops on sturdy metal looms and finish a functional potholder.
Grades: K–1
Independence: Moderate — help with bind-off
For younger students: K students can use pre-selected color sets and receive help only with the final bind-off until ready. 1st graders can usually learn the full weave/bind-off sequence.
Independent work: Number looms and give each student a labeled project bag so work can continue across sessions. A photo card for over-under weaving prevents most errors.
Lesson flow: Teach the setup and visual routine first, then open as a rotating station when students can begin, work, and clean up independently.
Safety and cleanup: Follow the teacher notes and supervise any activity marked Teacher-supported.
