Silk Painting / Silk Suncatchers

Resource Guide

Silk Painting / Silk SuncatchersPaint transparent color onto pre-stretched silk hoops to create luminous window art and experiment with color flow. Grades: K–1; TK only as a teacher-supported station Independence: Teacher-supported For younger students: TK uses teacher-prepared resist designs or no resist and only 2–3 colors. K/1 can learn controlled brush/dropper application; teacher applies resist until students have strong squeeze-bottle control. Independent work: Use covered color palettes with very small amounts of dye and one hoop per tray. Finished hoops can dry and display without the more advanced steaming/fixing used for wearable silk. Lesson flow: Teach the setup and visual routine first, then open as a rotating station when students can begin, work, and clean up independently. Safety and cleanup: Follow the teacher notes and supervise any activity marked Teacher-supported.
