Tablecloth Pull

Dishes mostly stay in place. Ask students to predict what will happen. Pull cloth quickly and horizontally from beneath the dishes. Key idea: Objects resist changes in motion; a quick pull gives little time for friction to accelerate them. Ask: Why didn't the dishes leave with the cloth?
